The Whitestone McKellar Lions Club has been serving the community since its inception in 1972. The Lions motto is ‘We Serve’. Voids and niches in the community are identified and the Lions members strive to fill it.
Our club has a number of long running programs but our longest and most recognized service activity would be our free Red Cross certified swimming lessons each summer for three weeks at the Dunchurch Beach. With the vast expanse of water throughout our community's, water confidence is important in our youth.
Other activities include Effective Speaking competitions, Bike Rodeo, annual Christmas Basket program for those in need, organizing a Diabetes education day and assisting individuals in times of need/emergency circumstances.
Our fundraising activities include our Bottle Shed at Auld’s Road Landfill site. The generous donations of our community help fund many of our activities. We also run our Crown and Anchor table and popcorn machine at local fall fairs and events.
Being a Lion member allows you to give back to your community as well as be part of an international organization that serves the world. Leadership opportunities and skill development are many benefits offered by Lions International thru courses/training and networking opportunities. You really have the chance to impact your community as well as be part of world wide efforts by Lions in other clubs.
Our club is continually in need of new members. Consider joining and becoming a member. Family comes first in our club, so how you chose to volunteer and contribute your time is entirely up to you. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dunchurch at 7 pm.
