Senior of the Year Award

Senior of the Year 2026: Jim Greenwood

Jim Greenwood and his wife, Mary Ann, began cottaging on Whitestone Lake in 1992. They moved full time to the area in 2014 upon retirement. Jim and Mary Ann fell in love with the tight-knit and neighbourly spirit of community in Whitestone. The Greenwoods have spent several years building their permanent home on Whitestone Lake.

Jim is a quiet leader in the community, always willing to lend a helping hand to any job that needs doing. He is frequently setting up and tearing down after large community events including the Whitestone Conservation Authority’s Wednesday Bingo, the Dunchurch Fall Fair, the library book sale and Strawberry Social, and Community Support Service’s Lunch and Learns. It is hard to find a community project, group, or event that Jim hasn’t dedicated time to!

Throughout the entire year Jim sits as president of the Cramadog Snowriders and treasurer of the District 10 Snowmobile Club. His work on the snowmobile trails is both labour intensive and a lot of fun. He enjoys the physical aspects of spending over 15-20 hours each week brushing and maintaining the trails and enjoying a meal with friends after a long day of work.

Neighbours are incredibly appreciative of Jim’s work as president of their road association, where he also takes on the winter snow removal and collaborates on summer maintenance. Jim also creates an annual maintenance plan to improve the road year over year.

Jim notes that he is fortunate to have two children and seven grandchildren. He and Mary Ann spend a lot of their free time with their grandchildren, particularly on or in the water. They are passionate about seeing the world and are grateful to have recently begun travelling several times a year. Jim loves building and mechanical work. He also enjoys carpentry projects but is quick to point out that Mary Ann is the real carpenter in the family.

The entire Municipality of Whitestone thanks Jim for his tireless dedication to the community. Thank you so much to Jim for his passion and energy!
