WHITESTONE ON. – The Municipality of Whitestone continues to assist residents and business owners who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The following resolution was unanimously passed at the Council meeting of May 19, 2020
THAT the Council of the Municipality of Whitestone does hereby extend waiving of penalty and interest charges on the first installment of unpaid 2020 municipal taxes that were due March 26th, 2020 (as per Council resolution 2020-078) from May 28, 2020 until August 27th, 2020;
AND THAT the Council of the Municipality of Whitestone does hereby waive penalty and interest charges on the second installment of unpaid 2020 municipal taxes due May 28, 2020, until the first installment of the final tax bill is due on August 27, 2020.
AND THAT these waivers do not apply to unpaid municipal taxes that were due prior to March 26, 2020.
AND THAT Council consider the need to extend these waivers prior to August 27, 2020.
“By waiving penalty and interest charges, we hope to reduce a measure of financial stress for our ratepayers and allow them to focus on staying safe and healthy.” said Mayor George Comrie. “We recognize this crisis has created economic challenges for many”.
Because property taxes make up the majority of the Municipality’s annual revenue, we encourage those who can afford to pay their taxes on time to please do so. The next property tax installment is due on Thursday, May 28th.
