AND FURTHER that the Council of the Municipality of Whitestone approves Phase 1 of the playground project to include two pods and playground equipment for junior and intermediate users.

AND FURTHER that Council approves the Recreation Committee’s recommendation to hire an employee to run recreation programs throughout the summer months.  Deferred - Reason for Deferral – Full Budget, Full List of Programs with details, Define a position, Invite McKellar, and Magnetawan Recreation Committee to discuss co-operative initiatives.

Council Supports Tay Valley Township – Ontario Building Code Change

That the Council of the Municipality of Whitestone hereby supports the resolution passed by Tay Valley Township questioning the need for an Ontario Building Code change to be imposed on small rural Ontario to have septic systems pumped every five years;

AND FURTHER that this resolution be forwarded to Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario; Bill Mauro, Minister of Municipal Affairs; Patrick Brown, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party; Andrea Horwath, Leader of the New Democratic Party; The Association of Municipalities of Ontario; the Rural Ontario Municipal Association; the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities; the District of Parry Sound Municipal Association; Tay Valley Township; the United Townships of Head, Clara & Maria and the Township of McNab/Braeside.  Carried

That the Council of the Municipality of Whitestone hereby supports the resolution passed by the Township of Lake of Bays requesting the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of Housing to halt standards proposed in Schedule 5 of Bill 7, in light of the significant fiscal challenge each municipality will face to provide this service to the public in a cost-effective manner;

That the Council of the Municipality of Whitestone hereby supports the West Parry Sound SMART Community Network Inc.`s application to the Connect to Innovate program requesting funding for the planned fiber optic backbone that would provide the much needed high speed, reliable and resilient internet connectivity to the Municipality of Whitestone;

AND FURTHER that Council acknowledges that the residents and businesses of the Municipality of Whitestone would greatly benefit from the fiber based connectivity.  Carried

Appointment to West Parry Sound SMART Community Network

2017 Pitch-In Canada

WHEREAS hundreds of thousands of Canadians show their concern for the environment and their communities each year by participating in PITCH-IN CANADA projects to: refuse, reuse, recycle and properly dispose of waste; clean up and rejuvenate local neighbourhoods, green spaces, ravines, waterways and illegal dump sites; restore habitats; and to establish composting and recycling projects;

AND WHEREAS PITCH-IN CANADA, a national, community-based, organization comprised of eco-action and community volunteers, believes that maintaining a quality environment and encouraging civic pride is everyone's responsibility;

AND WHEREAS PITCH-IN CANADA encourages voluntary action to: keep communities clean and beautiful and restore and maintain a healthy environment;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Chris Armstrong, Mayor of the Municipality of Whitestone declare the week of April 22- April 29, 2017 as "PITCH-IN CANADA Week" in the Municipality of Whitestone and invite all citizens in our community to actively participate in PITCH-IN CANADA's OPERATION: Clean Sweep!

AND FURTHER that the Municipality of Whitestone declares Saturday, April 22, 2017 as the Annual Pitch-In Day.   Carried
